Report summary of YPD training in Saigon

35participants attended the YPD training program in Saigon. They were from different countries including Cambodia, Australia, France, Vietnam (Hanoi and Saigon), Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh and Thailand. The program was held in Saigon, Vietnam from 8th -14th August 2009 on the theme “YPD Strategic plans Workshop” for 2010-2013 with a vision to 2015:

YPD Saigon team worked hard to organize this year very successful YPD training.

The first day of training was an introduction into YPDs history from 2003 until now and it was presented by Miss, Thuong Nguyen Le Yeu, Vice international coordinator of YPD international, and My Chi from YPD Saigon country coordinator. The training was conducted by Mr. Thuan Nguyen, a trainer for YPD program in 2009. He is a very good trainer. He brought all his experience and knowledge to show us during the training. Each day  new topics and skills were discussed. All participants worked hard on their assignments. We divided into 4 groups, then we all came together to share our ideas to the whole group and combine into one. Moreover the participants had to find out the vision for YPD worldwide.

Specially, In the middle of the training, the trainer chose a most important topic which talk about challenge and opportunities that related to vision. In fact, people have to challenge on the difficult/obstacle things such as skills, time, motivation, shame, leadership and lack of knowledge...By the way; we learnt that opportunities can help us accomplish our goals / challenges. Challenges can also be set up or revised thanks to opportunities.

After long discussions on the meaning of YPD, the trainer invited participants who had join YPD 2003 and some experienced people who were in the workshop to compose a new, final version of the vision. Finally, we got a new version for YPD International:

YPD unites young people from different nations and provide those opportunities to empower themselves and to contribute to the development of their communities and the world.

After we found the YPD vision initially we also took some main words from vision meaning to get experiment with participants by dividing into 4 groups to explain the questions below:
1. Country YPD team set up

2. Achieve objective of youth’s contribution
3. Empower themselves
4. To develop their communities and the world?

In addition, we will improve the YPD IT leaflet so that all YPD local teams can also use it for their YPD team. However, this is optional, if you do not want to use the YPD IT leaflet you can make your own.
YPD France will improve the YPD leaflet and it will put on YPD website. You can download it  from website www.ypdnews.info .

In the last day of the workshop, the YPD Saigon team took all the participants to do charity work at a Catholic Church near border of Cambodia-Vietnam. It took us about 3 to 4 hours to reach there including the driver lost the way. Everyone was very happy to meet up with children who are supported by the Church. We took with us books, pens, candy, and other study utensils to give to the children. They looked so happy after seeing us with the group from different countries. We brought a song from them and we play with them by showing them that we love them all.

In the evening of the last day, each country performed a dance or song traditional to their culture. It was really amazing because they practiced very hard before showing on the stage.  Each country's performance was  really excellent. We ate a lot of delicious Vietnamese food during the farewell party.

Voted for new IT members

After program, we selected two IT members to held on the position on

1. Vincent Dugrain elected as Volunteer Coordinator who will help for selecting YPD volunteers and training for International team.

2. - Im Sophea elected as Communication Officer who will support to release the YPD newsletter every month and update newsletter on website.

Both of them commit themselves to help YPD IT to achieve the goal and try their best to involve with the project that provide or innovate to improve YPD IT to handle with YPD local. Below is their commitment:

- Vincent Dugrain found out himself that it is very interesting in his experience as a volunteer in Australia. He says: Besides learning many aspects of community work (networking, writing, fundraising, meeting ...), I learned a lot about myself. Volunteering is valuable for both the volunteer and welcoming organization. It brings the people to learn and practice other languages and provides a unique, mind opening on the world.
That's why I would like to give other people the chance to experience what I lived in Australia and learn all the things I have learned during this time.
Volunteering is a great and valuable experience and I encourage everyone to take one year or half a year of his life to do so.My plan as volunteer coordinator is to develop YPD's activity in terms of sending volunteers, following up their work, providing them training and evaluating.

First, it could become sort of systematic that every year a set of volunteers (for example 3 or 4) go to the country welcoming the training program to organize the training program.

Second, YPD could become a place where people leading volunteers and people looking for a volunteer position can meet.

Third, I would like to develop YPD's partnership with other organizations in order to find, for example, funds to support our volunteers.

- Im Sophea commits herself to help YPD IT to update the new project on website and help YPD local to update their project as well. I am very happy which had been chosen me as communication officer but one thing I have to tell you I am learning how to build up website that is why I think it is useful to use my knowledge to help YPD IT. I will try on my best to help YPD international to achieve the version.

These new positions will remain for 2 years. Decision was made –upon election.

The upcoming host of YPD training program

Cheers to YPD France wwhich is going to host the YPD training program in 2010. There were 5 people from France to join YPD training in Saigon. They committed to host YPD training next year 2010. But more important they need to find out how to help ypd members to get Visa because as we get information that it is very hard to get visa for Asia people. Let’s see they will give us back answer.

By the way, YPD France are looking for international volunteers for organizing the host training in 2010, if anyone is interested in the position, please find out on ypd website: www.ypdnews.info and fill the international volunteer form then send to Vincent Dugrain email address: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or Clemence Roger: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

One more thing, YPD France can provide for volunteering on accommodation and food. So please think carefully to decide to do it. Specially, In France people are not very good in speaking English so we need volunteers who can speak French a little bit.

Thank-given to YPD Saigon

Thank you very much to YPD Saigon team who worked very hard to make up YPD 2009 such a success and well-organized.

Moreover, IT team would like to thank Angèle Dransart who spent 3months doing volunteer work in Saigon. We hope this experience will be useful to her in her future career.

Library for Dream Project in Hanoi

YPD Hanoi are going to establish a library at a Secondary School in Vietnam province where 60%-70% of about 600 pupils are in very poor families. Some of them are orphan or their parents leave for working, some others have to stop school when they finish grade 9. It is very difficult for them to go to school and seems to be impossible to buy books or studying implements. They are still living in very difficult conditions, some pupils have only one shirt to go to school and have no book or pen.

Besides that, YPD Hanoi will organize an event in November to help these poor pupils by supporting and encouraging them to continue studying and adapt to circumstances. They are calling for support (books, clothes, studying implements, money) and are fundraising for the event. They are selling (receive orders and transport) Moon-cake on Mid-autumn occasion and will sell flowers on Vietnamese Woman Day - 20 October.

They are welcoming people who want to help with books, clothes, or finance or other stuffs to support this project. Please contact address below:
