While on a private visit to Calcutta (now known as Kolkata ) on the 18th February Ruben met with John Ekka working for the Airports Authority of India who will be a contact person for YPD in Kolkata. Kolkata is in the north eastern part of India. The city's population is about 20 million. Ms Maryanne Ekka works for TRF-India at Tatanagar (known as Jamshedpur). Tatanagar has a large steel plant owned by the Tata family. Maryanne works with women groups and a community organisation. She will be the contact person for YPD-Tatanagar. M. J. Ruben also proposes to organise a meeting in April 2006 at Kolkata with contacts from Bangladesh, Kolkata and Jamshedpur. Prospects are bright for initiation of YPD in different cities in south India and the north of India. Funds is the main crunch for development of YPD in India. But soon it is hoped to overcome this hurdle. YPD-India desires to send a larger contingent to YPD 2006 at Malaysia provided necessary funds are raised. |
